We've had the studio for three weeks now and we're settling in nicely. The other artists are lovely (and very talented!) and we feel very lucky to be part of the Unit Twelve team. We're starting to get to grips with what we can achieve in the time that we are there and have managed to produce some items that we are pretty pleased with. Ruth has been concentrating on her vintage bottle pieces, using the bottles to present her machine embroideries, giving them a renewed purpose and creating beautiful one off works of art. She's been tweaking her mending kits, which are now looking great and also working on the images for a 'Ted's Christmas' keepsake book (no pics as yet).
I've been enjoying getting back into screen printing again and have produced a couple of tea towel designs (the hoover one needs some tweaking as it took about 4 hours to complete!), some felt backed cat and dog brooches, a linen shopper bag, a linen across body bag and some recycled paper notebooks.
All in all a pretty pleasing start.

An exciting new venture!
We are the two youngest (but by no means young!) of five children. A family of creatives, each good with our hands in one way or another following our parents' example. Dad would always be rustling something up in the garage and mom would be up to her ears in wool and fabric. This early influence has created a life long passion for making and an appreciation for the beauty in the simplest of things. We are both inspired by the things that are familiar and dear to us: our homes, family and childhood memories, but by using different techniques in our practice, one using screen print and one using stitch, we create visually very different pieces of work. By using our family name of Brady and combining it with Ruth's married name of Proud, we have created 'brady & proud'...and we are so thrilled to have set up our first studio at Unit Twelve, a fabulous gallery and artists studio's in Stafford. We hope you enjoy following our progress and looking at the things we like and make. This is our studio space...
